University of Minnesota
Outside of NROTC required activities, University of Minnesota students are able to enjoy a wide variety of resources and extracurricular activities. The University boasts over 300 registered student groups ranging from robotics club, debate, swing dancing and dozens of intramural sports. No matter the interest, students are able to find ways to get involved outside of daily ROTC and academic schedules.
The armory is located a short walk from the University Recreation and Wellness center which provides open gym facilities including dance studios, basketball and volleyball courts, a 200m indoor track, weight lifting areas, natatorium, and a rock climbing wall. Midshipmen often utilize the Recreation and Wellness center to supplement Battalion physical training, participate in group fitness classes, or attend University physical education courses.
When relaxing and studying, students take advantage of over five libraries and half a dozen coffee shops located on campus. Stadium Village and Dinkytown, the two neighborhoods flanking either side of the Minneapolis campus, provide dozens of quick food options within a 10 minute walk of campus. Many parts of campus run parallel to bikeways and jogging trails which are well utilized during warmer months.
Gopher athletic events are a staple of any student experience at the University of Minnesota. Aside from the deafening enthusiasm of a Gopher hockey game, students can also find a more relaxed evening attending professional and student dance, theatre, and orchestra performances at discounted rates.
When wanting an escape from campus, students can take a short trip on the lightrail to either downtown Minneapolis or Saint Paul, providing easy accessability to the world renowned Guthrie Theatre, Mill City Museum, US Bank Stadium, Target Field, Target Center, CHS Field, the State Capitol, and the Xcel Center.
