University of Minnesota
Outside of NROTC required activities, University of Minnesota students are able to enjoy a wide variety of resources and extracurricular activities. The University boasts over 300 registered student groups ranging from robotics club, debate, swing dancing and dozens of intramural sports. The armory is only a short walk from the University Recreation and Wellness center which provides open gym facilities including dance studios, basketball and volleyball courts, a 200m indoor track, weightlifting areas, natatorium, and a rock-climbing wall. Midshipmen often utilize the rec center to supplement Battalion physical training but run and bike trails provide easy access to outdoor exercise just off-campus.
When relaxing and studying, students take advantage of over five libraries and half a dozen coffee shops located on campus. Stadium Village and Dinkytown, two student neighborhoods, provide quick food options within a 10 minute walk of campus.
Athletic events are a staple of any student experience at the University of Minnesota. Aside from the deafening enthusiasm of a Gopher hockey game, students can also find a more relaxed evening attending professional and student dance, theatre, and orchestra performances at discounted rates. When wanting an escape from campus, students can take a short trip on the lightrail to either downtown Minneapolis or Saint Paul, providing easy accessibility to professional sports, music venues, and other amenities.
