Lieutenant David S. Shaffer

Lieutenant David Shaffer graduated from Oregon State University where he received a B.S. in Sociology and commissioned through the NROTC program as an Ensign in June 2010.

Upon commissioning, LT Shaffer reported to the USS ASHLAND (LSD 48) and served as both a Deck Division Officer for 12 months and the Weapons Officer for 18 months. While onboard, the ASHLAND LT Shaffer earned his Surface Warfare Officer device.

In March 2013, LT Shaffer reported to the USS SAN JACINTO (CG 56) as the Assistant Chief Engineer. While onboard, he also acted as the Damage Control Assistant, Auxiliaries Officer, Main Propulsion Assistant, Electrical Officer, and the 3M Officer. He completed a nine-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf.

In December 2014, LT Shaffer reported to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. He received a M.A. in Homeland Security and Defense in June 2016.

LT Shaffer is currently serving as the Acting Executive Officer and Assistant Professor of Naval Science, Naval Reserve Training Corps University of Minnesota. He and his wife live in Minnesota with their daughter.
