Captain Nicholie T. Bufkin

Commanding Officer

CAPT Nicholie Bufkin is a native of St. Paul, Minnesota. She was commissioned through University of Minnesota NROTC in 1993 as a Surface Warfare Officer.

CAPT Bufkin’s sea tours include Deck/Weapons Officer, Main Propulsion Assistant and Assistant Operations Officer on USS PLATTE (AO 186), as Assistant First Lieutenant on USS INCHON (MCS 12), and as Combat Information Center Officer and Operations Officer on USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54). As a department head she served as Operations Officer on USS PETERSON (DD 969) and USS ANZIO (CG 68) followed by a tour as Flag Secretary for Carrier Strike Group NINE (ABRAHAM LINCOLN Strike Group). She was the Executive Officer on USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53) and Commanding Officer on USS MILIUS (DDG 69). Most recently she served as Surface Operations Officer and then as N3/Operations Officer for Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN (NIMITZ Strike Group).

CAPT Bufkin served ashore at U.S. Space Command as Theater Event System Evaluation Officer, as Flag Secretary for Commander, Naval Surface Forces, and as Global Force Management Offier at US Africa Command.

CAPT Bufkin has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from University of Minnesota, a Master of Science in Management from Colorado Technical University, and she completed her Joint Professional Military Education ( JPME II ) at the Joint Forces Staff College.

CAPT Bufkin’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (four Awards), Navy Commendation Medal (six Awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two Awards), and various unit and service awards.

She is married to Brad Bufkin, a native of Sulfur, Oklahoma and has two daughters Macie and Kaylee.
